Developing innovative solutions, such as IPAAM Digital and virtual assistant Yva, Feitoza reinforces the sharing of her knowledge in the area by joining the ambassadors of the RenovaBR Sustainability Journey.

With a solid track record in Amazonas, the manager has extensive experience in environmental consulting, technical reports, solid waste management and sustainable infrastructure. Before joining Ipaam, he was superintendent of the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Amazonas (CREA-AM) and Member of the State Council for the Environment of Amazonas (CEMAAM), contributing to the formulation and improvement of environmental policies. In addition, he also works in the private sector, as leader of the Gusta Mais Group. With such a track record, the RenovaBR Alumni argues that economic development and standing forests are inseparable agendas.

From living in the forest to political action

“I have always been concerned about environmental issues and sought to understand how I could use technology and innovation to generate a positive impact. Over time, this became a mission,” says Feitoza. According to him, his interest in working in the area of the environment and sustainability arose from his experience with the forest and the awareness that the Amazon needs to be led by people who know and respect the territory.

However, Gustavo soon realized that technical knowledge was not enough and would not transform realities if it was not connected to the decisions that define public policies. “Today, I can look at environmental problems with technical depth, but also with a political vision,” he explains.

Environmental transformation with innovation

At the beginning of this year, the leadership left the superintendence of Crea-AM, to assume the position of director of IPAAM, a strategic body for environmental protection in Amazonas.

According to Feitoza, the biggest challenge for management has been ensuring agility without compromising environmental rigor. “We launched IPAAM Digital, modernizing licensing and inspection processes. In addition, we implemented Yva, an artificial intelligence and digital agent via WhatsApp to support internal decisions and offer services in real time,” he says. In addition, during this period, the leadership helped develop the Vandete Rocha Forest, a space that has become a symbol of commitment to environmental education, aimed at new generations.

For him, both implemented technologies helped with the agility and efficiency of internal decisions and meeting demands, bringing the agency closer to the citizen. “The focus is always on delivering value to society with responsibility and creativity,” says Feitoza. This learning came from both his experience in the public sector and in the private sector, where he understood that innovation only makes sense if it is willing to solve real problems.

Despite the progress, the current director of the agency recognizes that there are numerous challenges in reconciling an economic development agenda with environmental preservation. He points out that, currently, they are betting on the bioeconomy and the sustainable use of resources, in addition to environmental regulation. “Development needs to recognize the value of the living forest and the challenge is to ensure that each decision takes into account both the environmental impact and the potential for social transformation,” he adds.

RenovaBR Sustainability Journey

“Jornada Sustentabilidade is a powerful network and being an ambassador allows me to inspire and be inspired by other leaders committed to the future,” says Feitoza.

For him, the opportunity is a chance to amplify innovation with purpose and the development of public policies based on evidence, generating leadership with real impact.

He explains that transformation first happens through active listening, understanding the local reality before proposing solutions. “Sustainability is not a pretty topic. It is a responsibility. And it requires preparation, persistence and collective commitment,” he concludes.

Born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Gustavo Picanço Feitoza is an environmental engineer and, since 2025, has served as CEO of the Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute (IPÁAM), emphasizing the intersection of public management, technology, and environmental preservation.
