RenovaBR alumni, federal deputy and current Municipal Secretary of Education of Rio de Janeiro, Renan Ferreirinha received the Make a Difference Award 2024<\/a> in the Education category. The victory recognizes the parliamentarian as one of the main articulators of the federal law No. 15,100\/25 <\/a> which aims to ban the use of cell phones in all Brazilian schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the ban on cell phones in educational environments in the country was already a reality within the municipal schools of Rio de Janeiro, when the secretary adopted the measure in order to understand the impacts on early childhood, elementary and high school education. The experience in the municipality generated positive effects for the approval of the idea at the federal level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a federal deputy, Ferreirinha filed Bill 104\/15, from the Chamber of Deputies, in the Committee on Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJ). For him, Rio de Janeiro was a successful example, which already identified advances in education without the use of electronic devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the parliamentary discussions, the secretary counted on the efforts of Senator and RenovaBR Alumni, Alessandro Vieira, who was the rapporteur for the project in the Senate Plenary. The parliamentarian defended the idea and argued that improvements in school performance, discipline and a reduction in bullying have been seen in all parts of the world where there are restrictions on the use of cell phones in schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the 2024 Make a Difference Award<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is the 22nd edition of the award, an initiative of the newspaper O Globo, carried out in partnership with the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan SESI) and Naturgy, to honor Brazilian men and women whose work and dedication served as an example to the country in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Renan Ferreirinha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Graduated in Economics and Political Science from Harvard, with the help of a scholarship, the municipal secretary of Rio was already a federal deputy in 2018, and federal deputy in the following elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is a RenovaBR Alumni and as municipal secretary of Education during the term of Mayor Eduardo Paes, he improved the growth of elementary education in Rio de Janeiro in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
