Riva Bezerra, a RenovaBR leader, is serving her first term as Mayor of Cedro, in the interior of Pernambuco. A businesswoman and farmer, she found politics to be a path to transforming her city's reality. Her entry into public life stemmed from concerns about local politics, which for years has been mired in concentrated power, leaving the population without answers to their needs. 

Her experience in the private sector brought a practical perspective on planning and efficiency. "As an entrepreneur, I've always worked with projects and results, and I do the same at city hall," she says. 

In just a few months of her tenure, she proudly comments on the measures implemented that are gradually restoring public trust in politics, such as paying public servants on time—something that, in past administrations, was lagging behind. "Careful stewardship of public funds is essential because it allows us to honor commitments and ensure the functioning of the public sector," Riva emphasizes. 

Beyond transparency with resources, Riva emphasizes that administrations must pay attention to communication with the community. Born on a farm in the interior of the state, she knows the difficulties of rural areas firsthand and makes a point of maintaining an open dialogue with district residents. As the leader points out, this connection with the community is essential to strengthening the work of the public administration team as a whole. 

Dialogue as a path to good governance

In her relationship with other branches of government, Riva emphasizes the importance of institutional balance. She recognizes the challenges of dealing with long-standing political practices, but believes that respectful dialogue is the only and most powerful path forward. 

"It's not easy to maintain a balance between the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches in a place that has long lived with a policy that wasn't people-oriented. But by recognizing the position of each branch and respecting their respective integrity, we can keep things going," he says. 

For the Mayor, each administration provides space to strengthen a new political culture. Since her campaign, she has emphasized that among her priorities is building a future in which Cedro doesn't depend solely on the city government, but can grow through entrepreneurship. "Despite our differences, we have sought a balance that moves the city forward," she concludes.
