This Tuesday (05/06), RenovaBR launched the Inter-American Public Leadership Program, an international training program that seeks to strengthen the role of leaders committed to democracy among Latin American countries.
Developed in partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Democracia+ Network, the course has 40 hours of live classes, in an online format, for around 150 participants from Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay, in addition to Brazil, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese, Spanish and English.
The inaugural lecture was given by professor and political scientist Francis Fukuyama, from Stanford University, and focused on the role of democratic leadership in times of crisis.
More than 150 spectators participated in the class, which, in addition to an introduction to political systems, addressed the importance of democratic pillars and institutions for translating social demands into mobilizations and changes, and delved into cases and examples in different Latin American countries, such as Peru, Colombia and Chile.
“Students and people who are entering the democratic process need to understand the importance of the fundamental values that support democracy, and be willing to stay within the limits of the law. We need to support the institutions that exist so that they produce real results for people,” said Francis Fukuyama, a Stanford professor.
Seeking to promote a democratic culture based on evidence, participation, diversity and collaboration, the program will feature the participation of an internationally renowned faculty, including names such as Jean Michel Arrighi (OEA), Maria Migliore (Fundar) and Silverio Zebral Filho (OEA), among other prominent regional experts.
The course will take place over three main modules – International Module I, International Module II and National Module – where participants will have classes on the main challenges in the current political situation in Latin America, negotiation, political communication and international cooperation, including special preparation for COP30, in addition to meetings focusing on case studies and exchanges between leaders, mediated by local political training schools in the member countries.
At the end of the learning path, certification will be issued by RenovaBR in partnership with the OAS and granted to participants who meet the participation evaluation criteria.
“Our role with this training is to support a qualified space for the development of public leaders committed to ethics and the strengthening of democracy. The program proposes a path to building and consolidating solid foundations for the public and political actions of the participating leaders,” highlights Marjorie Lynn, Education Director at RenovaBR.
