In the week that Belém (PA) becomes the center of attention due to discussions surrounding COP30, leaders trained by RenovaBR met for a special dialogue on the role of politics in climate action. The meeting was attended by the founder of RenovaBR, Eduardo Mufarej, and diplomat Christiana Figueres, responsible for leading the negotiations of the Paris Agreement in 2015 — a global milestone in the fight against climate change.
The conversation brought together different generations of students from the political training school, united by a commitment to act ethically, technically, and purposefully in the face of the environmental and social challenges of the 21st century. Among the participants were Marina Helou, state representative for São Paulo; Felipe Rigoni, Secretary of the Environment of Espírito Santo; Dr. Mylene Costa, vice-mayor of Castanhal (PA); Flávia Marçal, superintendent of Early Childhood in Belém; and José Gustavo Fávaro, executive director of the Brazilian Forum of Climatechs.
During the conversation, Mufarej highlighted the importance of preparing political leaders capable of connecting the climate agenda with development and people's quality of life.
“It is time to reflect on the state of global geopolitics and how this context can favor the climate discussion, especially in countries like Brazil. It is increasingly crucial that leaders committed to this agenda promote concrete changes and positive impacts on people's lives,” he stated.
The agenda in Belém included, in addition to the meeting with Figueres, a moment with Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and member of the board of The EarthShot Prize, an environmental award that supports innovative climate solutions worldwide, which took place in recent weeks in Rio de Janeiro.
Mufarej met with RenovaBR leaders Marina Bragante and Marina Helou for an exchange of experiences with Ardern, in a meeting marked by learning and connections that strengthen the network of leaders committed to a more sustainable and democratic future.
